Notes

Goldoni’s lovers are caught in a cycle of jealousy, quarrels and reconciliation. The staging combines this emotional volatility with moments of theatre within theatre, in which the performers step outside their roles to comment on the action. Cynicism and romanticism coexist in a portrait of love that remains strikingly contemporary.

The production returned to Milan and toured over several seasons, with performances documented through 2016–17.
