Notes

Conceived by Luciano Berio in the early 1980s, the project brings Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo into dialogue with different musical traditions. Voices, orchestra, mandolins, wind band, a jazz-rock group and electronics coexist in a reading of the opera that connects historical music with contemporary listening.

The Paris revival returned to the 1986 version, realised by Maurizio Dini Ciacci, Luca Francesconi, Betty Olivero and Francesco Pisanu, under the musicological supervision of Angela Ida De Benedictis. A new electronic part was composed and realised specifically for this production, alongside the sound direction of the performance.

Conducted by Maurizio Dini Ciacci, the production was presented on 1 February 2019 in the Salle des concerts at the Cité de la musique, as part of the Philharmonie de Paris’s Berio+ weekend.
